The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) has called on the federal government to declare a state of emergency in Maiduguri, Borno State, following the devastating flood that ravaged the city.<\/p>\n
ALGON National President, Aminu Mua’zu Maifata, made the appeal in a statement issued in Lafia, Nasarawa State.<\/p>\n
Maifata urged the federal government to activate emergency management mechanisms to address the humanitarian crisis and support victims.<\/p>\n
He also called on the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other relevant agencies to provide immediate relief materials and support to affected communities.<\/p>\n
ALGON advocated for swift measures to prevent future occurrences, emphasizing the need for a multi-stakeholder approach to address the root causes of the disaster.<\/p>\n
The association commiserated with families who lost loved ones and properties, expressing solidarity with the government and people of Borno State.<\/p>\n
ALGON assured the people and Governor of Borno State of the support of all 774 local government areas across the country during this challenging period.<\/p>\n
