Senator Ali Ndume, representing South Borno Senatorial District, has expressed disappointment over the federal government’s response to the devastating flood in Maiduguri.<\/p>\n
Ndume stated that the presence of government agencies, including the Humanitarian Ministry, NEMA, and NEDC, has not significantly impacted the plight of flood victims.<\/p>\n
The senator warned of potential food and health crises due to the destruction of three major markets, including the Maiduguri Monday Market, Budum Market, and Gamboru Cattle Market.<\/p>\n
Additionally, Ndume noted that three major hospitals in Maiduguri, including the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, were submerged, posing a significant threat to public health.<\/p>\n
He also raised concerns about the risk of disease outbreaks due to dead bodies washed away from the Gwange graveyard and animal deaths at the Gamboru cattle market and zoo.<\/p>\n
Ndume emphasized the need for urgent health measures to prevent waterborne diseases such as cholera and diarrhea.<\/p>\n
However, he praised the Nigerian military, police, and security agencies for rescuing flood victims and protecting their property.<\/p>\n
The senator also commended Governor Zulum for establishing over 25 feeding centers for displaced victims.<\/p>\n
