{"id":48616,"date":"2024-09-14T23:03:22","date_gmt":"2024-09-14T23:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=48616"},"modified":"2024-09-14T23:03:22","modified_gmt":"2024-09-14T23:03:22","slug":"12-year-old-girl-tortured-for-two-years-rescued-in-akwa-ibom","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/09\/14\/12-year-old-girl-tortured-for-two-years-rescued-in-akwa-ibom\/","title":{"rendered":"12-Year-Old Girl Tortured for Two Years Rescued in Akwa Ibom"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: right;\">The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, has rescued a 12-year-old girl named Bright Sunday, who was allegedly locked up in a dilapidated building by her father.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Eluyemi Eluwade, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, revealed this during a press briefing in Uyo, the state capital on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>He said that the victim was imprisoned by her father, Ndifreke Sunday, in collusion with her stepmother, Mrs Victory Sunday (28 years old), both of whom lived in Ikot Ukporo Idoro Village in the state&#8217;s Ibiono Ibom local government area.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the victim&#8217;s rescue and subsequent arrest of the suspects came after the State Ministry of Justice received a complaint regarding the accused torturing the victim.<\/p>\n<p>Eluwade further stated that the accused were detained for child deprivation and abuse in accordance with Section 10 of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition Law 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe arrest was made on Tuesday, September 10, at Ikot Ukporo Idoro Village in Ibiono Ibom LGA of Akwa Ibom State, following a complaint received from the Ministry of Justice about the suspect subjecting his daughter to inhumane treatment.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects admitted to locking up the child because she confessed to being a witch and responsible for his afflictions,\u201d Eluwade said.<\/p>\n<p>The commandant referred the victim to the Gender-Based Violence Shelter Home for care and rehabilitation.<\/p>\n<p>He described the young girl&#8217;s brutal treatment as savage, callous, and terrible. He cautioned parents not to commit such activities, under any pretense, because the government would not stop apprehending violators.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that the suspects would be turned over to the competent prosecutorial body for further action.<\/p>\n<p>The woman shared her ordeal with reporters, lamenting that she was kept locked up in a shabby room, denied food and bathing, and subjected to regular beatings by her stepmother.<\/p>\n<p>She further claimed that she was fed once every two days, was allowed to bathe twice a month, and was denied an education.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Akwa Ibom State Command, has rescued a 12-year-old girl named Bright Sunday, who was allegedly locked up in a dilapidated building by her father.
