Ambassador Dunhai made this clear during an address to journalists at the Chinese Embassy in Abuja, emphasizing the significance of the agreements for the future of Sino-Nigerian relations.

The ambassador described President Tinubu’s visit as a pivotal moment in the diplomatic ties between both nations, marking the beginning of an enhanced phase of bilateral cooperation. “President Tinubu’s visit opened a new vista in China-Nigeria relations,” Dunhai stated, underscoring that the agreements would usher in increased activities and cooperation in various sectors, including trade, infrastructure development, and technology.

During the visit, the two countries signed a total of 13 cooperation documents, spanning areas such as high-quality Belt and Road Initiative planning, global development initiatives, economic growth, human resources, the use of the Beidou Satellite Navigation System, the export of Nigerian peanuts to China, and media exchanges. The ambassador also mentioned that one of the agreements covers 19 specific projects, reflecting both ongoing and future collaborations between the two countries.

Ambassador Dunhai highlighted the importance of these agreements and assured that both Nigeria and China are fully committed to ensuring their successful execution. He explained that the scope of cooperation goes beyond government-to-government documents, as several agreements were signed between Chinese companies and Nigerian state governments, further expanding the range of collaborative efforts.

“That is exactly my mission and task. That is my priority,” Dunhai emphasized when asked how he would ensure the implementation of the agreements. He added that beyond the 13 formal agreements, several other documents were signed between departments and companies from both countries. These agreements, according to him, are not merely symbolic, but are geared toward translating the consensus reached by the two leaders into tangible results.

In his remarks, the ambassador noted that the implementation of these agreements will result in increased visits and delegations between the two countries. “There will be a lot of incoming visiting delegations from China and outbound delegations from Nigeria to China,” he said, underscoring that officials and business leaders from both countries will be working closely to bring these agreements to life.

Ambassador Dunhai also stressed that China is keen to strengthen coordination with Nigeria in multilateral forums and advocate for the interests of developing countries. This cooperation will also serve as a platform to further strengthen China’s relations with Africa as a whole. “China is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with Nigeria in multilateral affairs and jointly safeguard the interests of developing countries,” he said.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Dunhai expressed optimism about the future of China-Nigeria relations, asserting that the new phase of cooperation will significantly boost trade and economic ties between the two nations. He hailed President Tinubu’s visit as “unique, historical, and a great success” and predicted that the agreements signed during the visit would unlock new opportunities for both countries.

One of the highlights of the agreements is the anticipated influx of Chinese investors into Nigeria, with a focus on key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, and technology. Ambassador Dunhai indicated that this development will accelerate Nigeria’s economic growth and foster the transfer of technology and expertise. “We are going to cooperate more in all areas,” he noted, adding that Nigeria will witness an increase in Chinese investment and knowledge-sharing across multiple sectors.

Additionally, the ambassador underscored the importance of bilateral trade between the two countries. He mentioned that President Tinubu’s visit provides a solid foundation to boost trade volumes, particularly as Nigeria looks to diversify its economy and increase non-oil exports. The export of Nigerian peanuts to China, for instance, was singled out as a notable achievement that would benefit both nations.

As both countries work toward upgrading their bilateral cooperation, the ambassador expressed his personal commitment to ensuring that the agreements lead to tangible benefits for both China and Nigeria. He concluded by affirming that China is prepared to continue deepening its relationship with Nigeria, both in bilateral and multilateral settings, for the mutual benefit of both nations.

With the first steps already being taken to implement the agreements, the coming months are expected to witness a series of high-level engagements between Nigerian and Chinese officials, aimed at turning these diplomatic commitments into real-world outcomes.

The Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Yu Dunhai, has affirmed that work has commenced to ensure the full implementation of the 13 bilateral agreements recently signed between Nigeria and China during President Bola Tinubu’s state visit to Beijing.
