This significant decision was announced by the PSC\u2019s Head of Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">CP Opara steps into his new role following the promotion of his predecessor, CP Benneth Igwe, to the rank of Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG). Igwe has since been assigned to Zone 7, Abuja, where he will serve as the Zonal Assistant Inspector General of Police.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">CP Peter Opara, a seasoned law enforcement officer with a robust career, brings a wealth of experience to his new position. Before this appointment, he served as the Commissioner of Police at the Force Secretary\u2019s office. Additionally, Opara held the role of Deputy Commissioner of Administration and Finance in the Imo State Command, where he was instrumental in enhancing administrative efficiency and financial management.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">CP Opara\u2019s distinguished career includes a variety of key positions within the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). He previously served as Personal Assistant to former PSC Chairman and retired Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mike Okiro. In this capacity, he provided strategic counsel and support on critical issues affecting the police force during Okiro\u2019s tenure.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Opara also held the position of Deputy Commissioner (DCP) of Legal Studies at the Police Academy (POLAC) in Wudil, Kano, where he played a pivotal role in shaping the legal education of upcoming police officers. His administrative expertise extended further as Area Commander in both Aba and Uyo, where he oversaw major crime-fighting efforts and maintained law and order in two of Nigeria&#8217;s most dynamic urban areas.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">CP Opara\u2019s international experience is notable as well, having served as the Senior Deputy Defence Adviser at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations in New York. During his tenure at the UN, he contributed to Nigeria\u2019s diplomatic efforts on international policing and security matters, reinforcing the country&#8217;s position in global law enforcement initiatives.<\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\">Additionally, CP Opara held other key roles within the NPF, including Personal Assistant to multiple Inspectors General of Police and Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) of Operations and Works.
