The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended Alhaji Suleiman Ganiu Aremu, alias “Barryshine,” a wanted drug baron, after a two-year investigation.<\/p>\n
Aremu, Managing Director\/CEO of Barryshine Suleiman Nigeria Ltd, was linked to four failed attempts to export cocaine to Saudi Arabia and Qatar through Lagos’ Murtala Muhammed International Airport between 2022 and 2024.<\/p>\n
The NDLEA’s probe began in November 2022 when a female passenger, Alhaja Ajisegiri Kehinde Sidika, was caught with 400 grams of cocaine concealed in footwear.<\/p>\n
Further investigation revealed Aremu’s involvement, including hiring drug couriers and financing their travel expenses.<\/p>\n
Two other drug mules, Lawal Lateef Oyenuga and Aikhomoun Daniel, were arrested in 2022 and 2024, respectively, with cocaine concealed in footwear.<\/p>\n
Financial investigations linked Aremu to the arrested suspects and his associates, Oluwafemi Akande Abidoye and Olanrewaju Abdullahi Ramon, who are currently at large.<\/p>\n
The NDLEA blocked Aremu’s bank accounts and eventually arrested him on August 26, 2024.<\/p>\n
Aremu claimed to be in property development, hotel management, and clothing business, but investigation revealed his involvement in drug trafficking.<\/p>\n
Properties traced to Aremu include two houses and a hotel in Lagos.<\/p>\n
A Federal High Court in Lagos has granted the NDLEA’s application to detain Aremu for 30 days and declared his associates wanted.<\/p>\n
NDLEA Chairman Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa praised the officers for their diligent investigation, stating that the law will always catch up with those involved in the criminal trade, no matter how long it takes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
