The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) confirmed the arrival of the deportees at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja on Wednesday.

Among the deportees, 90 were women, while 310 were men, reflecting a diverse group of individuals returning home after facing deportation from the UAE. Their arrival highlights the broader issues surrounding migration, legal documentation, and the socio-economic pressures that drive Nigerians to seek opportunities abroad.

The returnees were received by officials from several government agencies, working in coordination to ensure their safe and orderly repatriation. The Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) led the reception efforts, collaborating with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons (NCFRMI), the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), among others.

The coordinated response underscores the Nigerian government’s commitment to addressing the challenges faced by citizens deported from foreign countries. Many of these returnees often face significant difficulties upon their return, including reintegration into society, economic hardships, and, in some cases, traumatic experiences stemming from their time abroad.

In a statement shared on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), NTA announced: “Four hundred Nigerians, including 90 females and 310 males, have been deported from the United Arab Emirates back to Nigeria. They were received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, by the Office of the National Security Adviser in collaboration with the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants, and Internally Displaced Persons, the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and other stakeholders.”

The reasons for the deportations remain multifaceted. Over the past few years, the UAE has tightened its immigration policies, particularly targeting undocumented foreign workers, visa overstayers, and those involved in illegal activities. Many Nigerians, drawn by the promise of better economic prospects, had migrated to the UAE in search of jobs but found themselves caught up in legal or documentation challenges that eventually led to their deportation.

400 Nigerian deportees from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) have arrived in the country, marking another chapter in the ongoing efforts to manage the growing challenges of migration.
