The Ebonyi State chapter of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is witnessing a notable exodus of major stakeholders, with the immediate past Speaker, Odefa Obasi Odefa, being the latest high-profile figure to make the switch.<\/p>\n
Odefa, alongside other influential stakeholders from his Onicha East constituency, formally resigned their memberships from the PDP. Odefa submitted his resignation letter to the Chairman of his Ogudu Okwor Ward in Oshiri community, located within the local government.<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, he confirmed his defection to journalists in Abakaliki, the state capital, where he was joined by other prominent figures from both the PDP and the Labour Party (LP) in the local government, all announcing their resignations from their respective political parties.<\/p>\n
The list of those defecting alongside Odefa includes the PDP Chairman of Ugwu Oshiri Ward, PDP Chairman of Okpuzor\/Ukawu Ward, PDP Chairman of Ebyia Oshiri Ward, PDP Chairman of Abaomege Ward, PDP Chairman of Ishinkwo\/Ukawu Ward, PDP Chairman of Ogudu Okwor Ward Oshiri, Odefa Ogbu, Odefa Coordinator of Chukwuma Odii campaign organization in Onicha local government area, former Labour Party Chairman of Onicha local government, Hon. Chinedu Nwokposi, Dr. Pius Okoro, a key stakeholder of PDP in Onicha local government, among others.<\/p>\n
In his resignation letter, Odefa expressed, “After a robust discussion with my family and associates, I have decided to resign my membership of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP). In considering the decision, I am satisfied that I have given my best to the party and as well thank the party for the chance to serve while I was in the party. I wish you well and thank you so much.”<\/p>\n
Odefa noted that on Monday of the same week, all the ward executives of PDP in Onicha local government and Onicha East state constituency, where he represented in the House of Assembly for a third term, collectively resigned from the party. This mass resignation effectively dissolved the PDP executives in the entire Onicha East, which comprises Oshiri, Ukawu, Abaomege, and Ishinkwo communities.<\/p>\n
