The opening of these enhanced facilities at the Nigerian Embassy in Rome is a significant step forward in the effort to speed passport processing and acquisition for the Nigerian diaspora.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigeria&#8217;s Minister of Interior, was instrumental in the establishment of these cutting-edge passport processing centers. He and Dr. Adedotun Aridegbe, the Service Public Relations Officer (SPRO), underscored the government&#8217;s commitment to cultivating citizen diplomacy and improving services for the diaspora population, underlining President Bola Tinubu&#8217;s administration&#8217;s devotion.<\/p>\n<p>The Interior Minister, represented by Acting Comptroller General Caroline Adepoju, announced the progressive implementation of the upgraded e-Passport and the introduction of additional facilities at selected Nigerian embassies across Europe. The first phase, which included embassies in Spain, Greece, Austria, Switzerland, and Italy, was officially started in Rome, with the second phase set to begin by the end of the week.<\/p>\n<p>Tunji-Ojo emphasized the e-Passport&#8217;s compliance with the International Civil Aviation Organization&#8217;s (ICAO) strict standards, establishing Nigeria as the first African country and the fifth in the world to accept this technological breakthrough. This achievement has earned the country significant regard on the world stage.<\/p>\n<p>Furthermore, the Minister emphasized how the upgraded e-Passport will significantly cut processing delays in Europe, provided that applicants strictly adhere to the application rules. This involves using the online application and payment platform available at passport.immigration.gov.ng and ensuring that their passport application data is synchronized with their National Identification Number (NIN).
