The Palace of Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Garbai Elkenemi, and other portions of Maiduguri, Borno State’s capital city, were swamped in floodwaters early Tuesday.<\/p>\n
According to residents, the Shehu has fled his palace and is currently taking sanctuary inside the Government House.<\/p>\n
A citizen of Kofar Shehu stated, “This is shocking! This is something I have never seen before. Even the Shehu has left his palace for the Government House.<\/p>\n
Our correspondent in Maiduguri reported that the worst-affected neighborhoods include Lagos Street, Modugari, Post Office, and Gwange, where locals are struggling to save their homes and lives.<\/p>\n
In an interview with one of the victims, Usman Babagana, he said there were early warnings that more water may come, but residents were adamant because they had no place to go<\/span><\/p>\n He stated, \u201cWe were told flood is coming. I never expected it this Way. We didn\u2019t take it much seriously because we had nowhere to go.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n A pedestrian who was stuck by the flood around the post office area, Buba Jibril, told our correspondent, \u201cThis is the worst of it all I have witnessed since my stay in Maiduguri.
