The Northern Christian Youth Professionals (NCYP) have commended Kaduna State Governor for signing a Memorandum of Understanding with Chinese tech giant Huawei to advance the Smart City Project.<\/p>\n
NCYP Chairman Isaac Abrak described the partnership as a significant milestone that will enhance the ICT sector and create opportunities for youth in the state.<\/p>\n
However, Abrak cautioned the government to ensure the project’s effective execution, citing past experiences, such as the unfulfilled $350 million World Bank loan for basic education development under Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s administration.<\/p>\n
The group expressed confidence in the current governor’s leadership but urged caution, referencing the ongoing dispute between Nigeria and Zhongshan Fucheng Industrial Investment Limited, a Chinese firm, over a 2007 business agreement with the Ogun State government.<\/p>\n
This dispute has resulted in Nigeria being ordered to pay $70 million in compensation, with three jets and two residential properties seized.<\/p>\n
NCYP emphasized the importance of vigilance, transparency, and accountability to prevent similar situations that could damage Nigeria’s reputation and burden its people.<\/p>\n
