Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has established a Judicial Commission of Inquiry (JCI) to probe the violence that erupted during recent protests, resulting in billions of Naira in property damage.<\/p>\n
The 14-member commission is led by retired Justice Lawal Wada Mahmoud, a former State High Court judge, and comprises representatives from religious, civil society, security, and business sectors.<\/p>\n
Governor Yusuf recalled inviting peaceful protesters to the Government House to submit their demands, which he promised to forward to the presidency.<\/p>\n
However, a separate group of miscreants carrying dangerous weapons attempted to breach the government house but were repelled by security.<\/p>\n
The governor lamented the destruction of public property, including the multi-billion Naira IT hub, High Court, Chief Judge’s office, Kano Printing Press, and shopping malls, as well as loss of lives.<\/p>\n
Yusuf promised to investigate and hold perpetrators accountable, assuring the commission of non-interference and a free hand.<\/p>\n
He tasked the commission with advising on rebuilding destroyed infrastructure, preventing future occurrences, and addressing youth unemployment.<\/p>\n
Commission Chairman Justice Mahmoud thanked the governor and pledged to deliver a thorough report.<\/p>\n
