The governorship race in Edo State has taken a new turn as five political parties endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo, for the upcoming September 21 election. These parties\u2014National Rescue Movement (NRM), Alliance Peoples Movement (APM), Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), Social Democratic Party (SDP), and Action Democratic Party (ADP)\u2014have urged their supporters to vote for the APC.<\/p>\n
The endorsement event took place at the APC state secretariat, where Okpebholo was joined by his running mate, Hon Dennis Idahosa, and other top party officials, including the acting state chairman, Emperor Jarret Tenebe, and the director general of the Edo APC Governorship Campaign Council, Senator Matthew Uroghide.<\/p>\n
Hon Sam Arase of the NRM, speaking on behalf of the endorsing parties, highlighted Okpebholo’s commitment to revamping the state’s education system as a key factor in their decision. He emphasized that the parties believe in Okpebholo’s ability to bring about the growth and development Edo State desperately needs.<\/p>\n
In response, Senator Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the support and vowed to run an inclusive government, promising to implement his manifesto and turn the state into a “huge construction site.” He criticized the current state government for its failures and emphasized the need for a unity government to restore Edo State’s strength and viability.<\/p>\n
