{"id":46370,"date":"2024-08-30T16:39:33","date_gmt":"2024-08-30T16:39:33","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=46370"},"modified":"2024-08-30T16:39:33","modified_gmt":"2024-08-30T16:39:33","slug":"1m-fraud-efcc-nabs-suspected-syndicate-impersonating-olukoyede","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/08\/30\/1m-fraud-efcc-nabs-suspected-syndicate-impersonating-olukoyede\/","title":{"rendered":"$1m Fraud: EFCC Nabs Suspected Syndicate Impersonating Olukoyede"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a four-man syndicate for allegedly impersonating and blackmailing its Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, in a one million dollars fraud.<\/p>\n<p>The EFCC Spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, said this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>He said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday at Gimbiya Street, Garki, and Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.<br \/>\nOyewale stated that the alleged fraudsters impersonated the EFCC Chairman and contacted a former Managing Director of the Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), Mr Mohammed Bello-Koko, for a deal.<\/p>\n<p>According to Oyewale, they claimed that Bello-Koko was implicated in fictitious EFCC investigative activities during his tenure as NPA MD.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe impersonators allegedly demanded one million dollars from Bello-Koko, threatening arrest and prosecution if he failed to comply.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUpon receiving intelligence about the impersonators, EFCC operatives were deployed to collaborate with the alleged fraudsters, leading to their successful arrest.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe suspects are currently in EFCC custody and will be charged to court once investigations are concluded,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has apprehended a four-man syndicate for allegedly impersonating and blackmailing its Chairman, Mr Ola Olukoyede, in a one million dollars fraud.
