Hon. Amina Darasimi Bryhm, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Women Leader and President of the Forum of National Women Leaders, has called for deliberate efforts to boost women’s representation in politics.<\/p>\n
At a regional workshop on women’s participation in politics and leadership in North Central Nigeria, Bryhm emphasized the need for intentional actions to ensure women’s voices are heard and valued.<\/p>\n
Citing Rwanda’s success in achieving significant women’s representation through strategic government efforts, Bryhm urged the Nigerian government to implement the 35% women’s representation stated in the constitution, party constitutions, and manifestos.<\/p>\n
She recommended reduced prices for declaration of interest forms to enable women to run for office independently, deliberate legislation from the National Assembly and setting aside special seats for women.<\/p>\n
Executive Director of BAOBAB Initiative, Yeye Bunmi Dipo-Salami, emphasized the need for solutions, not just discussions. She highlighted the importance of understanding women’s unique perspectives and experiences.<\/p>\n
Committee Chairman of CSOs and Development House of Representatives, Abuja, Hon. Victor Obuzour, informed that a bill sponsoring 74 special seats for women in the National Assembly is currently in its second reading.<\/p>\n
The bill aims to improve women’s participation in politics, and the National Assembly is working on other legislation to promote women’s representation.<\/p>\n
Key stakeholders are working together to create a national action plan and build a movement of women at national, state, and local government levels to ensure their voices are heard.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
