Instagram and Spotify are developing a real-time song-sharing feature. While users of streaming services like Apple Music and Spotify can already share their favourite tracks on Instagram through posts and Stories, Meta, which owns Instagram, is now collaborating with Spotify to deepen music integration within the app.

Recent findings suggest the two companies are testing a feature that would let users continuously share the music they’re listening to via Instagram’s Notes. This new “Share from Spotify” feature was discovered by developer and app researcher Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for uncovering unreleased features. The app prompts users with a message that they can “continuously share what they’re listening to” and “stop sharing at any time.”

This feature would allow users to link their Instagram accounts to Spotify, automatically generating a new note displaying the current song. Other users could view these notes when they open the DM tab or visit a user’s profile.

However, it’s important to note that Meta and Spotify regularly test new ideas, so the discovery of this feature doesn’t guarantee it will be released to the public soon.

If implemented, this feature would build on a change made over a year ago when Instagram introduced the option to share 30-second song clips in Notes. Launched in 2022, Notes lets users update their status or share quick messages that appear above their inbox on Instagram.

This new feature would offer users more ways to express themselves, enhancing the platform’s appeal. Music has become increasingly significant for Instagram, especially since the app recently added the option to include a song directly on a user’s profile.

Spotify and Meta seem to be strengthening their partnership, not only through new features like this but also through their shared concerns about EU regulations. Both Meta’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, and Spotify’s CEO, Daniel Ek, have voiced concerns that Europe’s open-source AI rules could hinder the continent’s progress due to their complexity
