Mrs Patience Umo Eno, wife of Akwa Ibom State governor, has rehabilitated Grace Emmanuel, a 22-year-old widow who fed her four children with chicken and fish feeds from the poultry farm where she works in Eket, the state’s local government.<\/p>\n
Praise Uzoma, the farm owner’s daughter, tweeted about the incident on Instagram, eliciting pity and support from the public, including the First Lady, who first donated N500,000 to the young widow for upkeep.<\/p>\n
Mrs. Uduak Ekong, the governor’s wife’s press secretary, said this while fielding questions from journalists in Uyo, the capital of Akwa Ibom State, on Tuesday.<\/p>\n
Ekong added that Grace had been given with furnished housing, kitchen equipment, and food for three months, and that plans were underway to teach her in skills and business management, as well as enroll her back in school to complete her secondary education.<\/p>\n
She further stated that Grace’s monthly compensation has been boosted from N15,000 to N35,000, noting that her company will continue to pay her the agreed-upon amount of N15,000, while N20,000 will be added to her monthly payment to make it N35,000 from monies realized in her name.<\/p>\n
She stated that Grace, though a mother of four, is still a child and should be guided on how to manage her cash to avoid falling prey to some boys with nefarious intentions.<\/p>\n
“We are cognizant that she is a young girl who does not have a bank account or a phone. You don’t raise money to gift to her in bulk. She’s already vulnerable. So everything you give her that will allow her to live flamboyantly, she will fall prey.<\/p>\n
“People will come under the guise of love and deceive her,” she told me.<\/p>\n
Ekong also stated that, in addition to the physical gifts and donations to Grace, the governor’s wife has directed for the lady’s counselling and mental examination, stating that if the results show that she is fit, she will pursue skills acquisition and then start an alternative business to support her children.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo we are not just giving money and going away. We are going to provide a lot of support.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe next thing before empowering her will be mental evaluation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
