Apple has implemented a rare wave of\u00a0layoffs, affecting about 100 positions within its services group.<\/p>\n
The impacted employees at the Cupertino-based tech giant were informed of the cuts on Tuesday. The layoffs spanned various teams under Senior Vice President Eddy Cue.<\/p>\n
The job cuts include roles primarily associated with the\u00a0Apple Books\u00a0\u00a0app and Apple Bookstore, as the company shifts its focus to other divisions.<\/p>\n
Additionally, other services teams, such as the one managing\u00a0Apple News, also experienced layoffs.<\/p>\n
While Apple has largely avoided mass layoffs even as other major tech companies have downsized, it did lay off\u00a0614 employees\u00a0in Santa Clara earlier this year.<\/p>\n
Those cuts marked Apple\u2019s first significant job reductions since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic and coincided with the cancellation of its decade-long electric car project.<\/p>\n
Earlier this month, Apple held its\u00a0third-quarter earnings call, revealing $85.8 billion in revenue, surpassing estimates.<\/p>\n
Despite a slowdown in iPhone sales, services flourished, and the newly launched iPad lineup pushed its revenue up by 24% year-over-year. Apple CEO Tim Cook expressed optimism about the upcoming launch of Apple Intelligence, with the rollout expected to begin later this year.<\/p>\n
The company also announced that, in a planned transition, Chief Financial Officer Luca Maestri\u00a0will step down on Jan. 1 but will remain involved in corporate services.<\/p>\n
