The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has directed all national officers from its 54 affiliate unions to accompany President Joe Ajaero to the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) headquarters for questioning on Thursday, August 29, 2024.<\/p>\n
Ajaero was summoned over alleged involvement in terrorism financing and other charges. The NLC views these allegations as trumped-up.<\/p>\n
In a circular signed by General Secretary Emmanuel Ugboaja, the NLC instructed affiliate unions and state chapters to be prepared for a nationwide strike if Ajaero is detained.<\/p>\n
The circular also called for peaceful processions and prayer sessions at police headquarters in state capitals, tagged “Mobilization for Peaceful Procession and Prayer Session in Solidarity.”<\/p>\n
Key directives include:<\/p>\n
1. Abuja: CWC members and others will assemble at NLC headquarters by 8:00 AM on August 29 to accompany Ajaero to the police.
\n2. State Capitals: Members will gather at state secretariats, proceed to state police headquarters for a peaceful procession, and hold a prayer session until Ajaero’s interaction is concluded.<\/p>\n
