The Centre for Accountability and Transparency (CAAT) has called on the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate allegations of adulterated petroleum products being imported into Nigeria.<\/p>\n

The reports specifically pointed to Matrix Oil, alleging that the company imported the compromised fuel from Malta. Although Matrix Oil has denied the claims, labeling them as false and malicious, the CAAT has emphasized the need for a thorough investigation.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a press conference in Abuja on Tuesday, Okwa Dan, the convener of CAAT, stressed the importance of probing the allegations due to the potential harmful effects of the fuel on Nigerians. He urged the EFCC to arrest and prosecute anyone found guilty of what he termed “acts of economic sabotage.”<\/p>\n

“We are calling on the Economic Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, to arrest and prosecute every one of those that have committed the acts of economic sabotage and violated the international sanctions imposed on crude oil of Russian origin,” Dan said.<\/p>\n

He also called on the FCCPC to look into the matter, stating, “We further invite the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) to investigate Matrix Energy Limited since the dirty fuel it allegedly distributed in the country has caused harm to consumers in different forms including economic losses occasioned by damaged automobiles and generators.”<\/p>\n
