The Benue State Government has established a Technical Working Committee to design a climate change policy that will safeguard the environment while efficiently mitigating risks and adapting to the inevitable effects of climate change.<\/p>\n
The commissioner for Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, Odoh Ogwu, inaugurated the inception training and stakeholder consultation in Makurdi, the capital of Benue State, and praised the Women Environmental Programme (WEP)-Nigeria for its bold step towards mitigating, adapting, and establishing an emission baseline.<\/p>\n
Our correspondent reports that the Benue State Government, in collaboration with WEP, organized the workshop to draft a climate change policy document that will lead the state’s measures to prevent risks and adjust to unavoidable repercussions.<\/p>\n
The commissioner urged the committee members to work together to build a lively policy statement that will stand the test of time to protect the environment and the State’s economic advantages.<\/p>\n
In her speech, Anne-Marie Abaagu, executive director of the Women Environmental Programme (WEP)- Nigeria, praised the Benue State Government, through the Ministry of Water Resources, Environment, and Climate Change, for initiating the process of developing climate change policy and graciously hosting the training.<\/p>\n
