The Lagos State Government has taken action by sealing an eight-floor property owned by the Mikano company after the company disregarded a previously issued stop work order. The government has conveyed a stern warning that demolition could be the next step if the necessary actions are not promptly taken.<\/p>\n
In a statement released on Monday, the government’s decision is part of its ongoing efforts to restore order to the construction sector, particularly along the waterfront corridor.<\/p>\n
The property, situated on Queens’ Drive in Ikoyi, has been under construction and was sealed during a joint inspection carried out by the Commissioners for Waterfront Infrastructure Development, Ekundayo Alebiosu, and Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Olumide Olayinka.<\/p>\n
The commissioners expressed their disappointment at the company’s disregard for the earlier directive to halt construction until it provides the required documentation. They emphasized that the government is not turning a blind eye to such violations, regardless of the individuals or entities involved.<\/p>\n
Alebiosu stated, “The government cannot overlook these issues while asking us to continue with our work. It is a process. We have received numerous complaints and petitions, and that’s why I am here with the Commissioner for Physical Planning to verify the validity of these claims.”<\/p>\n
He continued, “Although more stringent enforcement measures will be implemented soon, we issued a stop work order to this company two weeks ago, which they disobeyed. Today, we found them still working, so we had to halt their operations once again.
