Senator Ned Nwoko, who is\u00a0 the vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, said that the destruction of vessels caught for conveying illegal goods and stolen crude oil by the military is to cover up evidence.<\/p>\n
Nwoko, while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja, stressed that destroying what should be used as evidence for crimes committed was illogical, except those expected to prevent the crime were complicit and compromised.<\/p>\n
According to him, crude oil pipeline vandalism and the destruction of vessels carrying illegal goods or stolen crude oil was not necessary, he said, what’s the point? It does not make sense.<\/p>\n
\u201cYou know, if somebody is found in possession of stolen goods, do you say, oh, the way to deal with this is to destroy it? No. You take it from them, you document it, you preserve it, you charge the culprits.<\/p>\n
\u201cAnd then you produce that in evidence against them in court and then ultimately return that product to the owner.\u201d<\/p>\n
The lawmaker, who is also a member of the Senate Committee, Upstream Petroleum, added that the only reason the military destroyed vessels apprehended for crude oil theft or lifting was to destroy evidence because there was compromise.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
