Governor Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State has approved the release of N200 million to support 150 medical doctors in attending a residency program. The program aims to provide a broad range of medical knowledge, basic clinical skills, and supervised experience in various fields.<\/p>\n
The sponsorship will benefit 50 medical doctors working with the Borno State government, who will receive N2 million each, and over 100 Borno indigenes working with federal institutions, who will receive N1 million each.<\/p>\n
Governor Zulum, a fellow of the postgraduate medical school, announced the approval during a meeting with the National Executive Officers of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) in Maiduguri. He emphasized that healthcare service delivery is a priority for his administration.<\/p>\n
The governor also commended the coordinating minister of health and social welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, and the executive secretary of the National Primary Health Care Development Agency (NPHCDA), Dr. Muyi Aina, for their support in improving healthcare in Borno State.<\/p>\n
In a related development, the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) has appointed Governor Zulum as a champion for universal quality healthcare delivery and health workforce welfare. The NMA president, Professor Bala Audu, made the announcement during a courtesy visit to the governor.<\/p>\n
Professor Audu commended Governor Zulum for his infrastructure projects in the healthcare sector and his efforts to improve the welfare of health workers in Borno.
