Both the police and military have assured the public that they are prepared to swiftly address any individuals causing disturbances during the elections. The police have already taken substantial steps to secure the regions, deploying a significant force of 67,000 personnel in Kogi and Bayelsa states to ensure a peaceful and orderly voting process.<\/p>\n
The upcoming governorship elections will see Governor Douve Diri of Bayelsa state and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State seeking re-election, while Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State is concluding his second term and is backing the All Progressives Congress candidate, Usman Ododo, who emerged as the party’s preferred nominee.<\/p>\n
Discussing the security measures in place for the elections, Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding, 6 Division, Nigerian Army\/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation Delta Safe, issued a stern warning to anyone contemplating the unlawful act of snatching ballot boxes or inciting chaos during the governorship poll. He cautioned that those with such intentions in the coastal state should reconsider their actions or face the legal consequences.<\/p>\n
These directives were conveyed while addressing troops and members of various security agencies during ‘Exercise Safe Conduct 2023’ in Bayelsa State, as detailed in a statement released by Major Jonah Danjuma, the acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division Army Public Relations.<\/p>\n
