The fire that broke out at the Canadian Embassy in Abuja on November 6th has been effectively put out.<\/p>\n
Abuja City Journal<\/em> reports that two people were killed in this tragedy, and another person was critically injured.<\/p>\n The victims were identified as members of the technical staff in charge of repairing the embassy’s power generation facility when the fire broke out.<\/p>\n The Abuja City Journal <\/em>reported that the remaining embassy employees were safely transferred to safe havens after the incident, taking cover under trees and within the premises.<\/p>\n Embassy Keeps Mute <\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n When reporters from the Abuja City Journal<\/em> arrived at the scene, they were faced with secrecy and a lack of official information about the incident. Security workers on the premises were directed not to release anything to the public, and the embassy had ceased all operations until further notice, effectively putting it on lockdown.<\/p>\n When the ACJ reporters attempted to obtain additional information from the security officers, they were harassed by another security officer on the spot. To avoid additional confrontation and wrongdoing on the side of the security officers, the reporters opted to leave the premises.<\/p>\n Our reporters’ attempts to contact officials about the cause of the embassy fire were unsuccessful.<\/p>\n The lingering sensitivity around the occurrence, as well as the necessity for further inquiry, have led to the Canadian Embassy’s lack of official response. The embassy had not published an official statement about the incident as of the time of this story.
