On Monday, the first day of the Democratic National Convention, Congressional Republicans officially filed a case for US President Joe Biden’s impeachment, launching a politically charged attack that is unlikely to take off.<\/p>\n
The Republican-led House of Representatives’ three influential committees’ report charges Biden with wrongdoing related to his son Hunter’s international business dealings.<\/p>\n
The investigation “conclusively” demonstrated that Biden had “abused his public office for the private financial benefit of the Biden family and Biden business associates,” according to Jim Jordan, the chairman of the Judiciary committee.<\/p>\n
Republicans, however, have not offered any concrete evidence that Biden ever supported his son’s enterprises or used his position to further his own interests.<\/p>\n
There was no hard evidence in a paper that mostly focused on assumptions and insinuation regarding father-son relationships, and where much of the charges were tied to the time after Biden left office as vice president of Barack Obama.<\/p>\n
Biden has consistently denied supporting his son’s business endeavors, including those in China and the Ukraine. He is scheduled to give a farewell speech at the Democratic convention and hand over the reins to his vice president, Kamala Harris.<\/p>\n
Hunter Biden’s international connections and his turbulent personal life as a drug addict in recovery have been utilized by Republicans for years in an attempt to disgrace the president.<\/p>\n
But protracted efforts to establish an impeachment case against Biden, which many perceive as an attempt at retaliation for Republican Donald Trump’s two impeachments during his presidential campaign, have never reached the point where the House actually votes on them.<\/p>\n
Republicans have a razor-thin majority, and it’s not clear if Monday’s findings will ever result in a formal vote on impeaching Biden because the GOP needs to defeat Democratic opposition with near unanimity.<\/p>\n
The president would undoubtedly be exonerated by the Democratic-controlled Senate if the House succeeded in impeaching Biden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
