This initiative is part of the government&#8217;s broader effort to protect lives and properties from the dangers of flooding.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>At the flag-off ceremony in Ado-Ekiti, the State Commissioner for Environment and Natural Resources, Erelu Tosin Aluko-Ajisafe, expressed her gratitude to Governor Biodun Oyebanji for his unwavering commitment to safeguarding the people of Ekiti State and promoting shared prosperity. Aluko-Ajisafe highlighted that the state has already invested over 500 million Naira in flood and erosion control projects, including extensive dredging and desiltation efforts across the state.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ongoing desiltation project, according to the Commissioner, will cover more than 22,903 meters of drainage systems, culverts, and access slabs in 45 communities, including Ado, Ikere, Iyin, Awo, Eyio, Esure, Iworoko, Are, and Afao townships. This initiative reflects the state government&#8217;s proactive approach, which has been recognized by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET) and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), both of which reported that Ekiti State is not expected to experience flash flooding from January to July 2024.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Aluko-Ajisafe called on the residents of Ekiti to collaborate with the government in maintaining a clean environment, aiming for a flood-free year in 2024 and beyond.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Taiwo Olatunbosun, also underscored the importance of a clean and healthy environment.
