The court was one of several properties vandalized and looted by hoodlums during the #EndBadGovernance protest, raising suspicions of a deliberate attempt to undermine justice.

On Wednesday, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf visited the court to assess the extent of the damage. He was accompanied by the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Barrister Haruna Isah Dederi, the Chief Registrar of the High Court, Alhaji Abdullahi Ado Bayero, and several judges. The tour revealed widespread destruction across the court premises, including the theft of critical documents and the destruction of valuable office equipment.

Speaking through his spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf condemned the vandalization as a “staged-managed mission” orchestrated by “enemies of Kano State” who allegedly hired miscreants to target the court. He claimed that the attackers were specifically motivated to disrupt the ongoing corruption trial of Ganduje, who currently serves as the Acting National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC). According to Yusuf, the vandals aimed to avert the legal proceedings against Ganduje, his family, and his aides.

“It is very unfortunate that enemies of Kano State hired undesirable elements to vandalize one of the historic public buildings with a mission of averting corruption charges against the Acting National Chairman of APC and former governor of the state, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje,” the statement from Tofa read.

The governor’s office estimated the financial loss from the vandalization to exceed N1 billion, with significant damage inflicted on the office of the state’s Chief Judge. In addition to stealing office equipment, the miscreants reportedly destroyed offices, burned cars, and damaged other materials crucial to the administration of justice.

Governor Yusuf used the occasion to address the youth of Kano State, urging them to resist being manipulated by detractors into engaging in violence. He emphasized the importance of focusing on skill acquisition for a better future and reassured the public that the government remains committed to protecting the lives and property of Kano’s citizens.

In a gesture of solidarity, Yusuf extended his sympathies to the Chief Judge, Dije Abdu Aboki, and the entire judiciary, acknowledging the significant setback the incident has caused. He urged the judiciary to remain resilient and to work diligently to recover and continue their essential work for the benefit of the common man.

The Kano State government has expressed deep concern over the recent invasion of the Kano State High Court, where crucial documents related to the corruption trial of former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje were allegedly stolen during a nationwide protest.
