An Upper Area Court in Kubwa, Abuja, has dissolved a 10-year old marriage between Rukaya Shuaibu and her husband, Shehu Zubair, over lack of love.<\/p>\n
The Judge, Mohammed Wakili, dissolved the marriage according to Islamic Law, following Shuaibu\u2019s prayer for divorce on the ground that the marriage lacked love.<\/p>\n
Mr Wakili ordered Shuaibu to observe \u201cIddah\u201d which is a three-month waiting period before contracting another marriage.<\/p>\n
Earlier, Shuaibu told the court that she got married to the respondent under the\u00a0Islamic Law, and that she had yet to have a child.<\/p>\n
She said that the marriage had broken down irretrievably, saying, \u201cI pray the court will grant my request for a divorce due to lack of love. The respondent owes me N100,000 which I want him to pay back.\u2019\u2019<\/p>\n
Responding, Zubair asked the court to grant Shuaibu\u2019s request, saying, \u201cI divorced her once in June, 2023. I consent to her request before the court.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI borrowed the money she mentioned for a friend for a business that failed, and she is aware that I have been pestering that friend to pay,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
