An accident that happened on Tuesday morning along the Ojoo-Iwo Road part of the Ibadan-Lagos expressway, close to the Agbowo\/Ajao area, is alleged to have claimed the lives of at least 16 persons and injured another 17.<\/p>\n
A trailer carrying roofing sheets collided with an 18-seater Totota bus, a Micra cab, and a Honda CR-V vehicle, resulting in the collision.<\/p>\n
Witnesses claim that the trailer involved in the collision had brake failure, which led to a catastrophic crash involving three additional vehicles going in the same way.<\/p>\n
According to eyewitnesses Mr. Emmanuel Omotoso and Mrs. Funmi Adejumo, who spoke to Vanguard, the death may have been caused by the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway’s ongoing construction, since it obstructed one of the expressway’s lanes.<\/p>\n
But in the event of an emergency like the one that occurred, the drivers pleaded with the Oyo State Government to buy large tow trucks and medical buses for rescue operations.<\/p>\n
They also demanded that the contractor in charge of the road work clear the second blocked lane in order to stop this from happening again.<\/p>\n
Private heavy towing vehicles were helpful in getting trapped cars off the area as of the time this report was filed, and some of the rescued occupants were taken to the hospital for medical attention.<\/p>\n
According to Roseline Alo, the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in Oyo State, who verified the accident, 16 people lost their lives and 17 were hurt.<\/p>\n
Alo reported that two people were unharmed and that the injured were transferred to a hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
