He made this commitment on Thursday while receiving a presentation from Course 32 participants of the National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja.<\/p>\n<p>The presentation, titled *Harnessing the Mining Industry for Enhanced National Security and Development: Strategic Options for Nigeria by 2035,* highlighted the potential of the mining sector to contribute to Nigeria&#8217;s security and development. The Course 32 Participants, tasked with researching national issues during their 11-month study, focused on the mining industry&#8217;s strategic importance.<\/p>\n<p>President Tinubu commended the participants for their thorough research and reiterated the necessity of diversifying Nigeria&#8217;s economy. He also directed security agencies to intensify efforts to crack down on illegal mining activities across the country, which he described as a significant threat to national stability.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I recognize the need for the diversification of the economy, and we have been pushing hard on this. Your involvement will equally promote a better understanding of the issues,&#8221; President Tinubu said, highlighting the challenges posed by illegal mining activities and the need for military and security intervention.<\/p>\n<p>During an interactive session, the President expressed concern about the health implications of mining activities on nearby communities. He stressed the importance of establishing medical centers and other facilities to protect the lives, property, and health of Nigerians affected by mining operations.<\/p>\n<p>Rear Admiral Olumuyiwa Olotu, Commandant of the NDC, praised the President for his support of the college, which has undergone significant infrastructural upgrades. He also appealed to President Tinubu for assistance in completing the college\u2019s permanent site in Abuja, which has remained unfinished since 2010.<\/p>\n<p>The NDC, established in 1992, has graduated 2,871 participants, including military personnel, police, and representatives from various Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), as well as international participants from Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America.
