Governor Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State has declared that his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is considering appointing President Bola Tinubu as its campaign director for the 2027 elections. Muhammed’s statement came in light of the President\u2019s policies which he claims are contributing to widespread dissatisfaction and economic hardship.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the launch of the PDP\u2019s local government election campaign at the Government House in Bauchi on Wednesday, Governor Muhammed expressed deep concerns over the current state of the nation\u2019s economy and governance. He lamented that there is significant \u201chunger and anger\u201d among the populace due to failing developmental policies and rising unemployment.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe issues of unemployment, failing educational systems, and ineffective federal policies are causing widespread discontent,\u201d Muhammed said. \u201cThese problems are self-inflicted by the current administration. I am calling on President Tinubu to reassess and change his policies because they are clearly not working.\u201d<\/p>\n
Muhammed further criticized the federal government\u2019s handling of economic relief measures, particularly the distribution of palliatives and funds to state governors. He contended that while the federal government generates substantial revenue, the financial support allocated to the states is insufficient.<\/p>\n
\u201cI have noted with concern the federal government\u2019s claims of providing 70 trucks and over N500 million in assistance, but this is negligible compared to their overall revenue,\u201d Muhammed said. \u201cThe policies they have implemented are causing more harm than good. Why are they introducing measures that only exacerbate the suffering of the people?\u201d<\/p>\n
The governor also addressed the issue of naira devaluation, attributing the inability of the existing minimum wage to cover basic necessities, such as a bag of maize, to the Central Bank of Nigeria\u2019s policies.<\/p>\n
