The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has successfully confiscated a staggering 14,481,519 pills of hard drugs, amounting to N13 billion in value. These impressive seizures occurred in Amuwo Odofin and at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Ikeja, Lagos State. Additionally, the NDLEA arrested ten individuals on charges of drug trafficking, including three visually impaired individuals and one businessman.<\/p>\n
Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media and Advocacy for the NDLEA, unveiled these remarkable achievements in a statement issued on Sunday.<\/p>\n
The seizures, consisting of tramadol pills and bottles of codeine syrup, resulted from targeted raids conducted by the NDLEA on various drug cartel hideouts in areas such as Amuwo Odofin, Surulere, and the Skyway Aviation Handling Company warehouse at the Lagos airport.<\/p>\n
Babafemi described the operations as “intelligence-led” and highlighted the substantial contributions of each operation to the quantity of confiscated drugs:<\/p>\n
The first operation commenced with a raid on a residence at House 8\/10 Hon. Wahuha Avenue in the Divine Estate, Ago Palace area of Amuwo Odofin on Sunday, October 29th. This operation led to the recovery of 490,000 pills of tramadol and 81,519 bottles of codeine syrup, totaling 4,510,000 ml.<\/p>\n
The second operation unfolded on Tuesday, October 31st, as NDLEA operatives targeted a covert warehouse operated by a prominent Idumota trader, Nwaoha Anayo. Located in Onitire, Aguda area of Surulere, this operation yielded an astounding 12,700,000 pills of tramadol.<\/p>\n
The third major operation focused on a syndicate allegedly using their official cover to facilitate the smuggling of illicit drugs through the Skyway Aviation Handling Company’s (SAHCO) warehouse at the Lagos airport. This painstaking operation, spanning weeks, resulted in the arrest of six individuals and the seizure of 1,210,000 pills of tramadol.
