Rep. Rotimi clarified that the discrepancy was due to a misunderstanding. He explained that the actual salary of Honourable Members is N600,000, which is subject to deductions for advances such as housing. The Member who publicly displayed his salary had an unusual circumstance, as he joined the House through a court decision well after the usual on-boarding process.<\/p>\n
The Spokesman confirmed that the House of Representatives is fully committed to the resolution passed on July 18, 2024, which mandates the salary cut. However, the implementation of this resolution faced delays due to bureaucratic procedures. The formal instruction to adjust salaries was given to the bureaucracy on July 23, 2024, which accounted for the delay in the application of the salary reduction.<\/p>\n
Rep. Rotimi stressed that there was no need for further investigation into the matter, as the House had already provided clarifications to journalists who inquired about the issue.
