Uche Onyeagucha, a former member of the House of Representatives from Imo State, has urged President Bola Tinubu to either resign from his position or form a Government of National Unity (GNU). Onyeagucha made this call on Tuesday in Owerri, reacting to President Tinubu’s recent broadcast, which was intended to address the ongoing nationwide protests against bad governance.<\/p>\n

Onyeagucha, who was also the former National Welfare Secretary of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), expressed that Tinubu’s broadcast has exacerbated the situation, adding “serious fuel to the flame” of public discontent. He reflected on their shared history as Pro-Democracy Activists during General Sani Abacha’s regime, noting their participation in the 1995 World Conference on Democracy in Washington, D.C., sponsored by the National Endowment for Democracy (NED).<\/p>\n

He criticized Tinubu’s administration for uniting Nigerians only through widespread hunger and bad governance, suggesting that the President’s appointees might not be providing him with accurate information about the country’s current state.<\/p>\n

Onyeagucha stated, “Your contempt and\/or ignorance about the level of hunger and anger against your administration was perfectly captured in your Broadcast to the Nation on Sunday, 4th August 2024. Your broadcast to the Nation has added serious fuel to the flame. The anger of Nigerians against you and your administration is now unparalleled.”<\/p>\n

He offered President Tinubu two options: dissolve his government and form a GNU, or resign and go into exile, allowing Nigeria to “start on a clean slate again.” Onyeagucha warned that failure to take either of these actions could plunge Nigeria into a severe political, economic, and social crisis.
