The group expressed their disdain for the perceived trivialization of the campaign by South-Western authorities, declaring that the Igbo are well-established and resilient in the region.<\/p>\n
In a statement issued on Monday, IPOB\u2019s Director of Media and Publicity, Emma Powerful, condemned the proposed protests scheduled from August 20-30, 2024, by unnamed Yoruba groups. Powerful emphasized that the Igbo are prepared to exit both Yoruba land and Nigeria through a formal referendum if necessary, and will not be intimidated by any threats or coercive tactics.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is laughable that the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has purportedly condemned the proponents of the ‘Igbo Must Go’ protest,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe governor\u2019s condemnation is seen as hypocritical, given his history of actions that negatively affected the Igbo community, including the biased demolition of their businesses and properties in Lagos State.\u201d<\/p>\n
IPOB further alleged that high-ranking individuals within the Lagos State and Federal Governments might be behind the \u201cIgboMustGo\u201d movement. They cautioned Southerners to be wary of such actions and the potential motivations behind them. The group accused these officials of attempting to incite division and unrest through the campaign.<\/p>\n
The IPOB statement called for a broader examination of the political and social dynamics influencing the \u201cIgboMustGo\u201d campaign.
