Gombe State Governor, Inuwa Yahaya, has revealed that the state cannot afford the newly mandated N70,000 minimum wage due to its limited financial resources. This minimum wage, recently approved by President Bola Tinubu following an agreement with joint labour unions, poses a significant challenge for Gombe State given its lean allocation.<\/p>\n
During a meeting on Tuesday with stakeholders at the Gombe Government House’s banquet hall, Governor Yahaya stated, “I cannot pay the N70,000 minimum wage, and I suspect many other states are in the same predicament.”<\/p>\n
On the subject of the Federal Government’s rice donation to states, Yahaya expressed appreciation but noted concerns over the delay in receiving these essential supplies. He mentioned, “We are yet to receive the Federal Government\u2019s 20 trucks of rice to Gombe State.”<\/p>\n
Despite these challenges, Yahaya reaffirmed the state’s commitment to providing relief to its citizens, highlighting previous palliative distributions and ongoing investments in sectors such as human capital development, education, health, and agriculture.<\/p>\n
Addressing the planned nationwide #Endbadgovernance protest, Yahaya stressed the importance of maintaining peace and order. He acknowledged the crucial role of civil society organizations, labor unions, and traders in ensuring social stability and economic resilience. He called for ongoing cooperation and dialogue to navigate these challenging times collectively.<\/p>\n
