Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, addressed the people of Ekiti in a Special State Broadcast on Wednesday, emphasizing the need for peace during the planned nationwide protest on August 1. He warned against the agendas of those pretending to fight for the ordinary people’s interest while intending to cause chaos.<\/p>\n
Governor Oyebanji highlighted that the state is still recovering from the violence and destruction caused by the 2020 EndSARS protest. He urged residents to continue their daily activities without fear, assuring them that no one would be allowed to obstruct, intimidate, or harass others under the guise of protests in Ekiti.<\/p>\n
He assured citizens that the state government and security agencies are prepared to maintain order and protect the state\u2019s peace and progress. He called on parents, guardians, traditional rulers, and religious leaders to advise the youth against being used by those seeking to incite violence. Oyebanji emphasized that protests, even if peaceful initially, can be unpredictable and potentially hijacked by hoodlums.<\/p>\n
Oyebanji stated, \u201cWe want to assure our citizens that we are more than resolved to protect our state and to ensure no breakdown of laws and orders. The security agencies will be on high alert and will not allow anybody to bloodstain our immaculate name as a peaceful and progressive state.\u201d<\/p>\n
