{"id":41153,"date":"2024-07-30T14:58:48","date_gmt":"2024-07-30T14:58:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/?p=41153"},"modified":"2024-07-30T14:58:48","modified_gmt":"2024-07-30T14:58:48","slug":"five-nigerian-startups-click-top-10-in-cohort-8-google-for-startups-accelerator","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/abujacityjournal.com\/livenews\/2024\/07\/30\/five-nigerian-startups-click-top-10-in-cohort-8-google-for-startups-accelerator\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Nigerian Startups Click Top 10 In Cohort 8 Google For Startups Accelerator"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Tech giant, Google, has selected five Nigerian startups to be part of cohort 8 of Google for Startups Accelerator.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">This year\u2019s cohort consists of 10 tech startups from Nigeria, Kenya, Rwanda, and South Africa, all using AI to solve significant challenges across various sectors, including fintech, climate, health, and other services.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Emerging from competitive applications opened to all African startups in April this year, Nigeria dominates this cohort accounting for 50% of the 10 slots<\/span><\/p>\n<p>According to Google, the 10 startups were selected from nearly 1,000 applications, highlighting the remarkable talent and creativity in the African tech ecosystem.<\/p>\n<p>The startups selected from Nigeria include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>CDIAL A<\/strong>I, is a startup that is transforming multilingual communication across Africa with the power of artificial and collective intelligence;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Earthbond<\/strong>, which is lighting up homes and businesses across Africa with affordable, reliable energy solutions, bolstered by carbon accounting and development finance;<\/li>\n<li><strong>MyAIFactchecker<\/strong>, which equips users with an AI-powered tool to combat misinformation and promote informed decision-making through fact-checking;<\/li>\n<li><strong>NextCounsel<\/strong>, a Nigerian startup that is supercharging lawyer productivity with an AI-powered tool for contract management, solicitor engagement, and compliance; and<\/li>\n<li><strong>Rana Energy<\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">provides clean, reliable energy solutions to SMEs and communities through a data-driven ecosystem.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong>Five others who were selected from other African countries includes;<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><strong>Fixxr, <\/strong>a South African company that is putting car owners and businesses in the driver\u2019s seat with transparent and convenient on-location vehicle maintenance and repair services;<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lifesten Health <\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">from Rwanda, is a health and wellness through cutting-edge screening and incentive-based programs focused on physical, mental, and nutritional health.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nakili,<\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">a Kenyan startup that is bringing salons, barbershops, and spas into the digital age with a mobile-based app for streamlined management and enhanced customer experiences;\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Nobuk Africa<\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, also from Kenya, is simplifying financial management for groups and collectives across Africa with a seamless platform for collecting funds, reconciling payments, and generating reports; and\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li><strong>Triply<\/strong><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, another Kenyan startup that is building Africa\u2019s travel operating system, connecting travellers with seamless booking experiences and travel businesses with powerful management tools.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Commenting on the selection, the Head of Startups Programs for Google in Africa, Folarin Aiyegbusi, said:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em style=\"font-weight: inherit;\"><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u201cWe are thrilled to welcome the 8th cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa program. These startups represent the future of African innovation, harnessing the power of technology to solve real-world problems and uplift their communities.
