Mrs. Olu Verheijen, the Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Energy, has announced Nigeria’s strategic investment in midstream gas infrastructure to address critical infrastructure gaps and expedite the country’s economic transition toward a gas-based economy.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the OTL Downstream Week, Verheijen revealed that the government is collaborating closely with the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) to allocate capital from the Midstream Infrastructure Fund to bolster the Midstream Gas phase, where the infrastructure deficit is most pressing.<\/p>\n
Farouk Ahmed, the CEO of NMDPRA, emphasized the Tinubu-led administration’s commitment to leveraging Nigeria’s abundant gas resources as a transitional fuel. With over 208 trillion cubic feet of gas reserves, Nigeria possesses substantial potential to transition to a net-zero emissions economy by attracting investments into the gas sector.<\/p>\n
Gabriel Aduda, the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, outlined critical areas for developing Nigeria’s downstream sector, which include enhancing infrastructure, expanding refining capacity, and implementing supportive regulations.<\/p>\n
During the Domestic Gas and Gas Infrastructure Summit, Ekperikpe Ekpo, Nigeria’s Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), noted that the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) is already addressing the infrastructural gaps in the gas sector.
