The explosion resulted in the loss of at least seven soldiers who were on their way to rescue a neighboring community under attack by the insurgents.<\/p>\n
According to sources, the soldiers received a distress call early Thursday morning about a Boko Haram attack on a nearby community. In response, their commandant ordered the deployment of three vehicles carrying armed soldiers to the scene. Tragically, the third vehicle struck the IED in the Mugunu area of Maiduguri, killing all but one of the soldiers on board.<\/p>\n
A military source revealed that the soldiers were mobilized around 5 am on Thursday to respond to the distress call. “They were called that a neighboring community is under attack by Boko Haram. So their commandant said they should go. So they moved with the commandant around 5 am in a convoy. The first and second vehicles passed, his own was the third, the EED device exploded and scattered all of them in the vehicle. They were seven.”<\/p>\n
