Google has announced several updates to the Google Play Store aimed at helping users discover more apps, games, and content tailored to their preferences. The company is enhancing recommendations and using Generative AI to quickly match users with content that suits their tastes.

The Google Play Store is receiving a new widget and additional rewards.

As the main hub for apps, games, books, and other content on Android smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, and TVs, the Play Store is often overlooked once users find and install their desired apps and games. Google aims to change this by making the Play Store a more immersive and enjoyable experience.

During Google I/O 2024, the company announced its use of Generative AI to create app review summaries and FAQs. Now, it has revealed plans to use Generative AI to provide more detailed insights into specific apps or games at a glance. For example, a summary of an app’s features might be visible on its Play Store page.

Additionally, Google will introduce curated spaces on the Play Store to gather all apps and games related to a particular topic. For instance, ahead of the T20 Cricket World Cup, a curated space was created to list all popular cricket-related apps and games. In Japan, Google collaborated with comic publishers to develop curated spaces showcasing related apps, games, comics, live events, and trailers. Editor’s picks and reviews will also be available from apps users have not installed.

To refine game recommendations, the Play Store will feature multi-select interest filters, allowing users to specify their interests.

The Play Store will also introduce a new widget called Collections, which displays relevant content from apps, games, and books directly on your Galaxy phone’s or tablet’s home screen. If you prefer not to have an app in your library influence content recommendations, you can disable it from the recommendation algorithms. This can be managed in the ‘Personalization In Play’ section in the Play Store’s main menu.

Google Play Pass, a monthly subscription offering free apps, games, and in-game content, will feature new offers in games like Asphalt Legends Unite, Call of Duty: Mobile, Candy Crush Saga, and Kingdom Rush 5: Alliance. Play Pass subscribers in Australia, Japan, South Korea, the UK, and the US can enjoy 80% off their subscription cost for the first three months.

Additionally, Google Play members at Diamond, Gold, and Platinum levels can win Pixel devices, Razer gaming products, and merchandise. Users in Great Britain, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and the US can check the Play Points perks tab weekly to view and claim Super Weekly Prizes.

The Google Play Games for Windows system will enable PC gamers to play two games simultaneously, allowing them to actively engage with one game while monitoring another.
