A copy of this document was given to ASUP via the NBTE.

According to ASUP, the paper has numerous inaccuracies and disputed topics that have displeased its members, who are important stakeholders in polytechnic education.

As a result, they requested that its implementation be halted, threatening to go on strike nationally if it was not.

To that purpose, the union issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government, which expired on Friday, July 19, declaring that they would proceed with the industrial action if the government insisted on adopting the new policy

However, the Federal Government has removed the policy following a series of meetings with stakeholders, including ASUP representatives, to evaluate it.

As a result, ASUP stated that they will no longer strike over this issue. This resolution was adopted at ASUP’s NEC meeting on Monday, July 22.

Shammah Kpanja, President of the Union, announced this in a statement made accessible to journalists on Monday night.

According to him, ASUP’s most recent decision recognizes that their demands for the new policy have been considerably addressed. He praised the members’ tenacity in the face of unjustified provocation, as well as the intervention and contributions of many stakeholders such as polytechnic rectors, sister staff unions, and students through the National Association of Polytechnic Students.

“We are also grateful for the Minister of Education’s fruitful intervention and the receptive disposition of the NBTE’s Executive Secretary in reaching these choices, as well as the media for once again being valuable partners.

By Gabriella Ogbu The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has suspended its planned industrial action in response to the Federal Government’s withdrawal of its newly implemented service arrangement for holders of Higher National Diploma (HND) certificates in government employment.
