The Zamfara State Government has announced that all necessary arrangements have been completed to conduct local council elections in August 2024, facilitating the local government areas (LGAs) to receive their allocations. This announcement was made by Mallam Farouk Ahmad Shettima Rijiya, the Senior Special Assistant on Communication and Mobilization, during a press briefing at the Government House in Gusau, the state capital.

Mallam Farouk highlighted the state’s support for the Supreme Court verdict on Local Government autonomy, stating that it would bring about more development. He assured that the PDP-led government is committed to ensuring a flawless and credible local government election in the state.

Additionally, Mallam Farouk mentioned that the party will fill all vacant leadership positions before the elections. This includes three delegates across 147 wards of the state and one national officer each, along with some key positions at the state level currently held in an acting capacity. The national leadership of the party has authorized the state chapter to fill these vacant positions by selection instead of holding a mini congress.

“We are now awaiting the return of Governor Dauda Lawal to finalize these tasks before notifying the national leadership for permission to proceed with local government election preparations,” Mallam Farouk added.
