The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) has rejected the release and rapid implementation of the new service scheme by the Federation’s Head of Service (HOSF) via the National Board for Technical Education.<\/p>\n
Addressing reporters on Friday at the Plateau State Polytechnic, the union’s Zone B Coordinator, Comrade Simji Lumpye, said the document, which was released last month and promptly sent to Rectors for implementation, was completely unacceptable to ASUP.<\/p>\n
The Zonal Coordinator suggested that the Head of Service\/NBTE should not be solely responsible for designing and approving the plan of service. Other stakeholders, particularly the ASUP, should also be involved.<\/p>\n
He stated that ASUP completely rejected the paradox at the Graduate Assistant Entry Point, where an HND graduate requires an upper credit and a degree holder requires a second-class lower to become a lecturer at the polytechnic.<\/p>\n
On CONTEDISS 12, he remarked that it is demoralizing, unneeded, and harmful to the polytechnic sector, adding that it will dissuade students from enrolling in polytechnics and will exacerbate the dichotomy and students’ apathy about polytechnic education.<\/p>\n
“The preference for bachelor’s degrees over HND certificates for the hiring of registrars and bursars is extremely discriminatory. The document is biased and discriminatory towards its products. “We vehemently reject this,” he stated.<\/p>\n
Lumpye went on to say that the willful removal of HND Pharmaceutical Technology from the document despite an existing court ruling is a clear violation of the rule of law, and he asks the NBTE to make every possible arrangement. and restore HND Pharmaceutical Technologists in the document.<\/p>\n
The Zone B Coordinator stated that the Union has issued a 15-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to halt the execution of the document or face industrial unrest, and that once the deadline expires, the group would gather to determine the next course of action.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
