The Confederation of All Progressives Congress (APC) Support Groups (CASG) has called on Nigerians to refrain from participating in any uncoordinated nationwide protests that could plunge the nation into chaos. The Director-General of the group, Prof. Kailani Muhammad, made this appeal during a news conference in Abuja on Thursday.<\/p>\n
“We strongly stand against any ill-advised group of persons or individuals organizing and staging a nationwide protest against the government of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, under any guise,” Muhammad said. “Such actions are distractions laden with landmines. No nation in the world has survived an uncoordinated nationwide protest without descending into chaos. Kenya is struggling to survive one. Nigeria cannot afford that experience at this critical moment.”<\/p>\n
Muhammad referenced the painful memory of the EndSARS protests, emphasizing that such demonstrations often attract hoodlums, political opportunists, and looters. He warned against indulging in untimely protests that have the potential to be hijacked by unsavory elements, leading to widespread chaos and destruction.<\/p>\n
“The President of the National Harmonised Association of Nigerian Traders, Bature Abdulazzez, has also categorically warned its members to stay away from the planned protest,” Muhammad added. “President Tinubu has demonstrated his commitment to addressing the people’s concerns by dispatching 20 trucks of rice to each of the 36 states, including Abuja, the Federal Capital of Nigeria.”<\/p>\n
The director-general appealed to state governors and the Minister of the FCT to ensure that these commodities reach the intended beneficiaries, the downtrodden masses, and are not diverted to political cronies and relatives.<\/p>\n
“We believe that President Bola Tinubu is working round the clock to implement other palliatives and frameworks to ease the unexpected hardships faced by the citizenry,” Muhammad stated. “It is imperative that we engage in corporate dialogue and collaboration to achieve socio-economic upliftment for the nation and its people, rather than embarking on protests fraught with dangers.”<\/p>\n
Muhammad expressed his pain in addressing the press about the current issues in the Nigerian political landscape, which threaten to undermine the core values of the nation’s political journey. He acknowledged the harsh economic downturn and the resulting hardship and poverty affecting Nigerians of all strata.<\/p>\n
“I genuinely accept, appreciate, and sympathize with my fellow countrymen and women on these unfortunate scenarios, including the soaring prices of food items, services, and goods across the country,” he said. “These challenges require synergistic dialogue with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to develop a mutual template for swift remedies, not only to address high food insecurity but also to enhance the security of our internal land, air, sea, and porous borders.”<\/p>\n
Muhammad called for a united front in addressing the nation’s challenges, emphasizing the need for constructive engagement and collaboration with the government to ensure rapid and effective solutions to the economic and security issues plaguing Nigeria.
