Dr. Helen Isamoh Egodo, the Cross River State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, has been indefinitely suspended by the All Progressives Congress (APC) executives of her ward for alleged gross misconduct.<\/p>\n

The suspension was announced by APC chairman, Umon North Ward, Mr. Igobi Kanu Ettan, alongside other ward EXCO members on Tuesday. Ettan explained that a five-man fact-finding committee, established pursuant to Article 21, B of the party’s constitution, investigated the allegations against the commissioner.<\/p>\n

The commissioner is accused of sending abusive and derogatory text messages to the then chairman of Biase Local Government Council, Ada Charles, and other ward leaders following a heated argument.<\/p>\n

Ettan stated that the committee had repeatedly invited the commissioner to provide explanations regarding the allegations, but she instead lodged a complaint at the State Police Headquarters, claiming the invitation was a kidnapping ploy. Consequently, the police arrested and detained members of the ward executive on charges of attempted kidnapping.<\/p>\n

Former state deputy chairman and secretary of the party, Mr. Eka Williams, and Barr Bassey Mensah intervened, directing the commissioner to apologize to the council chairman, ward executive, and party leaders in Umon North, and to withdraw the police complaint. However, Dr. Isamoh reportedly continued to undermine the ward’s leadership by using her position to harass and intimidate its members.<\/p>\n

Ettan added that Dr. Isamoh recently caused the arrest of a fact-finding committee member, Mr. Effiong Emmanuel, who has been in police custody for three weeks on kidnapping allegations.<\/p>\n
