Governor Ademola Adeleke had submitted the names of Wale Abbas and Adekunle Omoyele to the Osun State House of Assembly on Monday for confirmation as Chairman and Commander of the Amotekun Corps, respectively. The governor’s letter, as explained by Speaker Adewale Egbedun, highlighted the aim of these appointments to bolster the state’s security infrastructure.

Following the submission, the Assembly requested the nominees to provide their CVs and supporting documents by Monday. The screening took place on Tuesday, after which the Assembly approved their appointments.

Speaker Egbedun, upon confirmation, congratulated the new appointees and emphasized the importance of utilizing their extensive experience to enhance security across Osun State. He also urged them to foster strong working relationships with other security agencies to make Osun State a safer place.

In his remarks, the new Amotekun Board Chairman, Mr. Abbas, pledged to work closely with stakeholders in the state to combat crime and ensure the security of lives and property. He expressed his commitment to enhancing the effectiveness of the Amotekun Corps through strategic collaboration and community engagement.

Governor Adeleke, through the Secretary to the State Government, Teslim Igbalaye, had previously appointed retired AIG Abbas as Amotekun Chairman in a letter dated July 3. Additionally, the governor appointed retired CSP Isaac Omoyele as the Amotekun Corps Commander, while the appointment of retired Capt. Benedict Akanni as Osun Amotekun Field Commander remains in effect.

The appointments of Abbas and Omoyele come as part of a broader effort to rejuvenate the leadership of the Amotekun Corps. They replace Brig.-Gen. Isah Aderibigbe (retd) and retired Brig.-Gen. Bashir Adewinmbi, the pioneer Chairman and Commander respectively, who completed their four-year terms.
