The Republican National Committee launched its convention in Milwaukee on Monday, marking the official kick-off of the party’s gathering to nominate former President Donald Trump as their standard-bearer for the upcoming November 5th presidential election.<\/p>\n
This comes less than 48 hours after a failed assassination attempt on the former president.<\/p>\n
Fighting through a series of legal battles and a failed assassination attempt, Mr Trump will be nominated as GOP presidential candidate for the third straight time during the four-day convention. His running mate is also expected to be announced during the event.<\/p>\n
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Mr Trump announced he would be attending the convention in Milwaukee.<\/p>\n
\u201cBased on yesterday\u2019s terrible events, I was going to delay my trip to Wisconsin and The Republican National Convention by two days, but have just decided that I cannot allow a \u2018shooter,\u2019 or potential assassin, to force change to scheduling, or anything else. Therefore, I will be leaving for Milwaukee, as scheduled, at 3:30 p.m. today,\u201d Mr Trump said.<\/p>\n
Saturday\u2019s attack, which left Mr Trump with an injury on his right ear, with a person dead and some injured, has sparked widespread global condemnation.<\/p>\n
The assailant, Thomas Matthew Crooks, a 20-year-old Pennsylvanian, was neutralised after he opened fire at Pennsylvania campaign ground, causing panic.<\/p>\n
